In your opinion Pretty on The Inside may be better but statistic wise Nevermind was better. Nevermind was also more influential.
You're assuming here that the best records are the ones that sell heaps and shift stacks of units. But if that's the case Britney Spears is better than say....Placebo. I totally disagree. And so would most underground art rockers and punks. Although Nevermind was the most important record from 1990's to people who like rock music, a style that usually is lucky to sell 2 million copies at most in statistic terms Mariah Carey is the best thing the decade had to offer. AND I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH THAT. tHE IMPORTANCE OF THE RECORD HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW MUCH IT SELLS. I think this is because most people don't know what good music is. But yes Nevermind is better than Pretty on the inside.

comparing placebo to britney spears doesn't count. those are two totally different categories of music.

OK then lets compare music styles. I'm sorry but most art rockers believe the Pixies album Surfer Rosa is better than their other record Doolittle but Doolitle sold more. But neally all fullon Pixies fans believe Surfer Rosa is better. These ideas you've put forward tells one thing not many 'nirvana fans' have inherited the bands punk view of the world. I don't think Kurt would happy about that. Obviously none of you people listen to independent music.

what? i listen to tons of independent music. how would you know what i listen to? You told us remember? i like a variety of stuff except for rap, country, and pop at least. i can't stand it. i really like nirvana, the beatles, led zeppelin, and oasis. and all my other bands fall into place after those I don't any of those are independent music but I'm sure you listen to more artists than that. I wasen't refering to you I was refering to the multitude of Nirvana fans who think Limp Biskit is cool.

I agree with what people are saying on here. I don't remember who said it but someone said "You can dislike Courtney and still think an anti-Courtney site is lame", which I totally agree with. And you can like Kurt, and still think people that claim Kurt is God are lame.
Kurt is not God. Kurt was a talented musician. If every talented musician is God, there sure are a hell of a lot Gods out there.

Oh, so he is allowed to inspire YOU but he is not allowed to inspire his own wife?

She was just saying that Courtney has taken some of Kurt's work and claimed is was her work.
Ex) Old Age and a sad cover of You Know Your Right
Inspiration played no role in what she said so don't even think of playing that card.

I know people in here get bashed when they say that Kurt is remembered only for his death, but it is true! I mean, maybe the real fans that love Nirvana don't remember him just because of his death, but the mainstream sure does! MTV continues to talk about his death, every paper article I see that is about him isn't about his music, it's about his death.
If Eddie Vedder had committed suicide, I'll bet ya, Pearl Jam would be as big as Nirvana.
*awaits the bashing*

Inspiration played no role in what she said so don't even think of playing that card. No, I know she didn't say anything about inspiration, I was thinking about the board in here that says "Share any poetry/art Kurt has inspired in you". And if we as fans are allowed to write poetry inspired by Kurt, then why can't his wife? That was merely my point. Although I do agree on the You Know You're Right thing.

LOL Dirtgrrl; I'm not going to bash you for that. In part, Kurt is remembered because of his mysterious death. We, his fans, want to know what happened. I loved Kurt and Nirvana and his death brought a lot of unanswered questions that I think his fans have a right to know the answers to. He has the stigma of suicide on him and if he was murdered he deserves to have his name cleared so at least his daughter will know that he didn't leave her by choice. But I also remember Kurt for his music. I was 27 when I discovered Nirvana and the first time I heard "Smells like Teen Spirit" I was hooked. "All Apologies" was also a song I could relate to because he seemed to be saying that no matter what, you just can't please everyone, so sorry to those I can't please! It was a song I could relate to. While his songs were often depressing, I could detect a bit of sarcasm in his lyrics and it amused me and made me want more. I remember Kurt as being a major musical influence on me because I'm a "Sixties" girl, Janis, Jimi, the Doors, The Rolling Stones (when they were good : and Kurt brought me into the nineties and opened my eyes to a variety of music that was actually good. I will always be grateful for that. He was inspiring; a true musical genius who, had he lived, would have grown, evolved and left a bigger mark on the world than he already has. His death brought that to an abrupt halt and I was devestated. I want to know, did he really kill himself or is there something more? The evidence out there points to a whole lot more than suicide and I want to know what happened and I will continue to dig, watch and wait until the case is finally reopened, and I truly believe that someday it will be. His death was a tragedy. He was such a young man with so much to live for, including a beautiful daughter he loved beyond reason. He deserves a proper investigation. Just because he was a "junkie" doesn't give the SPD the right to waive a hand and dismiss it so casually without getting every single fact before ruling. Until the day when the case is reopened, I will remember Kurt for the joy his music brought me and for the talent he had that was bigger than his 27 years and be thankful he was on this earth, albeit a very short time, to share his gift. Time for work. Candied apples today. I LOVE MY JOB, I LOVE MY JOB! ;D

Hippie thanks for avoiding bashing me. Really appreciate it I know that there are alot of unanswered questions surrounding Kurt's death, and I also want to have these questions answered and I truly want to find out what happened. But the inevitable has happened, and he has become famous for his death, which has happened to alot of other people! All I know is I don't remember him only for his death, and it gives me great comfort that other people seem to agree with me.. What do you do for a living?

Dirtgrrl asks:Right now I just work a simple, part-time job in a candy store. I needed to get my 3 year old daughter into pre-school and in order to get subsidizing I need to be working and this job suits me. Plus we get free samples: I LOVE chocolate! ;D It's only 4 hours a day then I get a whole 30 minutes before I get my girls from school. For the past 5 years I've been a stay-at-home mommy and loved it but now the kids are older and it's time to go back to work. In the past I worked for years as a counselor. I've counseled youth, older people, people who are overweight and need guidance and people going through middle-age crisis. (like me ) I'm not a doctor, though my mother and sister are in the medical profession and I've work side-by-side with medical doctors; they dispensed the medications and I handled the emotional baggage. I've also worked in the dinner/theatre circuit in my younger days. Go to members.aol.com/algonkuin/elegy/pix.html and you'll see a picture of a girl in a white dress standing alone; that's me about 8 years ago in my pre-baby days. I was cast to play "Wyncombin" an american indian despite the fact I look irish. The original actress, a woman named Carol, had to pull out last minute and I was hastily brought in despite my protests. It was a fun show. I've done a lot of Shakespeare too and I've played vampires, engenues and maids. I also got so many ditzy blond parts that in self-defense I dyed my hair red for a while. ;D So, what about yourself? What do you do? ;D
