So leave her the hell alone! Hole were an incredible band but Courtney's solo album is just as wonderful... she is not going away. She is one of life's survivours. I adore her. She is my goddess. The most powerful example of a strong woman I've had in my life. I just don't get this strong woman stuff. If anything she's a weak person. Ok, so she had a bad childhood but she's not the first person to have a hard life and it's not like she's strapped for cash anyway. All this playing the victim crap is not what I'd call being strong. If you want inspiration, I could think of countless examples of good strong female artists better than CL. People who don't need to rely on fame and stupid behaviour to get noticed.

I'm inclined to agree with this post. I would be very interested in an example of how Courtney Love is a strong woman and an inspiration. I'm not knocking Courtney; but given her history, the controversy about her husbands death, and her more recent antics, I fail to see how she is inspiring. Maybe I'm missing something? Courtney is undoubtedly a fascinating person, whether you love her or hate her. Obviously she's a fascinating topic of conversation or this forum wouldn't exist, but inspiration? I'm sorry, but when I saw that picture of the nameless man sucking on her breast while she stood there in a stupor, and smiled, I was disgusted. That behavior was way over the top; something Courtney takes pride in, I'm sure.
These days she's fighting for custody of her daughter, her freedom, and her sobriety. If she makes it and stays sober, perhaps she might eventually be an inspiration to other people trying to lay off the drugs, but right now all I can do is wish her well; this journey is going to be a loooong one and she's got a whole lot of baggage clinging to her.

ok, some of the things that kobob and hippiechild are saying make sense, she isn't the first person to have a bad childhood, i know this, but some people are knocking her cos she's had plastic surgery she's not the only celebrity to have had that either. i personally think anyone whos been through all that nuts courtney has and is still standing is a bit of an insperation. sometimes she is weak, i know, but sometimes everyones weak.

I don't doubt that she's gone through a lot but as a media figure she is going to be judged by her actions and she can't expect sympathy when she's in and out of court, on drugs and acting like a very *friendly* person all the time. Basically, most of her problems are her own fault and as an example, a kid with leukaemia trying to make the best of each day is what I would call inspirational.
In terms of music, she might be a role model for girls in bands but she exploits herself for publicity and that's not really good for promoting equality. Same goes for the plastic surgery. Not really the image of an independent woman standing up for what's right. There are many female musicians who make amazing music that don't want to be part of the fake Mtv world and deserve more attention.

You know it's funny, the last part of your quote, minus the "female musicians" describes Kurt. He hated the fake MTV world and all the glitz and glamour; Courtney was the one who loved it. He just wanted to make music. If he had lived, I think he and Courtney would have split up eventually. She's all about image; he was about keeping it real. She is constantly trying to reinvent herself and he just wanted to be who he was. When people say that Courtney is a female version of Kurt I would have to disagree; Maybe to a certain point they were alot alike but Courtney was the ambitious one of the two. She had the drive and determination whereas Kurt merely stumbled into his celebrity status. I often wonder if he would have quit Nirvana if she hadn't pushed so hard.
I'm not knocking Courtney; if it's what she wanted, all the fame and fortune and stuff, go for it. But that's where she and Kurt differed. ALOT.
