Courtney rocks!

I don't think Kurt stumbled into it. Even if Nirvana did come out at the right time, no one gets famous by accident. Kurt was very determined to get where he did and he made a lot of the behind-the-scenes decisions. He knew how the system worked and he often took advantage of it.

It's not accurate to say that he just couldn't handle the fame. He was unhappy for most of the time but it's likely that he had depression so to have all that stuff happen to you in that state would be unsettling to say the least. A lot of what he says in the (suicide) note indicates his mental state. Not being able to enjoy listening to or playing music, unable to appreciate the fans, having no desire to learn new things, needing to be numb. If he was just disillusioned, he could have just quit. Why kill yourself for that when you have a family? Some people interpret this as an explanation for leaving the music business but he's describing a lot more than disillusion. It was life that he couldn't handle and it had little to do with how famous he was.
