After the last weak self-titled Nirvana compilation with only one unreleased track, I figured we wouldn’t be hearing anything more from the Seattle trio. The new four-disc box set to be released November 23rd and will feature 81 tracks including 68 previously unreleased recordings (read same songs different recordings) - rehearsals, outtakes, Kurt’s home demos, and a DVD which is confirmed to have unreleased band home movies, live footage, rehearsal footage and 20 full-length video performances, and a 60-page booklet.

The set was originally intended to be release in 2001, to coincide with the 10 year anniversary of Nirvana’s first major album, Nevermind. but delayed because both Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic were fighting lawsuits against Kurt Cobain’s widow over unreleased tracks. I’ve heard comparisons of how Courtney Love is to Nirvana what Yoko Ono is to the Beatles, but that’s simply unfair – to Yoko that is. I always remember hearing how Nirvana had a sizable collection of unreleased tracks, enough to fill at least a few rarities/B-side albums. So if I’m reading this correctly there are no new unreleased tracks on this entire box set, just unreleased recordings. Lame.

In other Nirvana news, Krist Novoselic recently released his book Of Grunge & Government : Let’s Fix This Broken Democracy! described as “One part memoir, one part political platform.” Politically Krist has been involved in electoral reform – and in particular issues of full representation and instant runoff voting in Washington State.

I've ordered in my copy so I can get the DVD edition before they sell out. There is like 10 songs there that I don't know and I've heard that some of the footage on the DVD dates back to 1987. Wow. I'm so excited. It all happens on the 22nd of November. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY. I've waited years for this and I don't think Courtney can hold it back now. I don't know. Why would you release a book of your dead husbands writings but not release his unreleased songs? Even stepping away from morality wouldn't releasing the songs make you more money.Courtney can be quite weird.

yeah she is obviously in legal troubles so she needs money. sad. but cool for us. i saw a commercial for the box set and it has some clips of songs . they sound so good.

Thank you I wasnt sure if it was an extra for ordering. I try not to order stuff over the internet.

yeah i know. you can't really trust anything over the internet. i pre-ordered mine at a music store and they said it included the dvd. if any of you guys have the channel mtv2 there is going to be two nirvana shows on tonight. just thoguht i'd tell you guys.

I am under the impression that the dvd is part of the limited edition and won't be sold with them all. I don't want to miss out so I pre ordered mine.

oh i ordered it too. anyway i watched the two shows on mtv2 yesterday. sorry i didn't get back to you on time about the times itslikeatradeoff. there were two. one was all clips from the dvd coming out w/ the set and the other was a show on the mtv unplugged show. i didn't really watch that one but i did watch all of the box set one and wow i am so excited now. the last song they played on it was a video of them recording "seasons in the sun" with kurt on drums and vocals and dave and krist on guitars. it was great and beautiful if that sounds weird enough. yeah it was a good show.

I saw that on a 3 minute clip as well - where they're in Rio. I can't wait, mainly for the DVD but also cause I hear there are 52 previously unreleased tracks on it. ;D I'm suprised whortney let them release it though...
