I never excuse Courtney for her behavour but I always try to see the reasons why something took place.Secondly, I'm well aware of who Patti Smith is even though I haven't read an biography. I played Horses and Rock n roll black person into the ground years ago.

Just checked out that 1999 list & I agreed with most of it.
Great to see real women artists on there.

Wow I agree with that list too. I love the fact that they put Kim Deal, PJ Haarvey and Kim Gordon on there, all incredibly talented women. I was just wondering where Mama Cass was though? Seems odd she isn't there. If it was my list I would have put Kat Bjelland and Kristin Hirsh on there as well.

It would be interesting if they ran a 2004 poll to see what new women artists made the list and which old (big in 99) ones got shunted off. Definate absence of a lot of R&B women like Mary J Blige... Not my style of music, but you'd have to acknowledge their contribution.

As for Patty Schemel using heroin, Patty is not the one who is in and out of court for various reasons stemming from drug charges to assault. Patty Schemel is not the one who calls editors and pays for her own publicity. She is not the one posing for lewd pictures with homeless men sucking on her breasts and she is not the one who married Kurt Cobain and had his child. She is not a person surrounded by notarioty, but a drummer for a band who got caught up before getting her act clean. Whatever drug use Patty was involved with, it was low-keyed and obviously she did what she had to do to get clean and stay clean. YEAH PATTY IS CLEAN NOW |
