Response to the recent ramblings of Courtney's father.
I've been made aware of another attempt by a very sad man who, like his daughter, will say anything to get attention.
In response to the outright lies and pointless ramblings of Courtney Love's delusional father, (recently posted on the "www.justiceforkurt.com" website), let me begin by stating emphatically, I have never even been to Monterey, much less owned property there!
As of October of 2005, (and for the foreseeable future), I do not own any real estate of any kind, anywhere, and have not owned real estate, of any kind, for more than twelve years.
I challenge anyone to publish the exact address of any property allegedly owned by me, or, for that matter, the name and address of any person who this pathological liar will likely claim to be hiding I disagreeets.
I have never asked for or received any royalties, money or other assests for any book written by Ian Halperin and/or Max Wallace. I do not have any agreement with any book publisher and never have, with the following exception;
I did receive a daily allowance of $200, (two hundred), plus transportation, hotel and meal expenses, from Simon And Schuster for my trip to New York in 2004 to help promote the book Love And Death. I personally insisted on that payment because I didn't want to go. The publishers, however, wanted me there. Since it cost me to be away from my work, I only agreed to go if I was reimbursed for my lost wages and/or vacation time.
I wish I could have bought a house for the $1200 I was paid. If anyone knows of such a deal, please send me the details a.s.a.p.
So where does "bio dad" get his information?
He makes it up!
I did find the comment about my not being a "skilled logician" somewhat ironic, especially in light of such an amazingly weird letter written by a person who believes himself to be, in his own words, "brilliant".
Enough said.
Comments on Gus Van Sant's new film, a fictionalized version of Kurt Cobain's "Last Days".
I was contacted by Gus Van Sant a few years ago by e-mail. He told me he was working on a project about Cobain. He gave me his phone number and asked me to call him. We spoke on the phone a couple of times and I later sent him a case study manual and audio CD.
Gus was friendly, seemed to be honest and up front with me and mentioned he had been friends with Kurt and Courtney. He told me he and a friend were working on a screenplay which would portray the circumstances surrounding Kurt's death from the perspective of three people--Kurt's, Courtney's and mine.
I understand the final product turned out somewhat different. I don't necessarily believe Van Sant deliberately misled me. I think he was probably confronted with "obstacles" along the way which prevented him from completing the project he first envisioned.
That is the only participation I’ve had with Van Sant’s “Last Days” project. I never asked for or received anything for my cooperation with Van Sant.
As of Oct 16th, 2005, I have not seen the film and probably won’t until it comes out on DVD. Every Cobain fan I've heard from who has seen the film, has been disappointed. They tell me the film is a very poor representation of the known facts surrounding Cobain’s death.
The television series, “Law and Order” did a fictionalized version of the Cobain Case a couple of years ago. Even though the names and some events were changed, it was still a fairly good show. Of course, my character was portrayed as a former police detective turned PI who was just out to write a book. Other than that, the true life players and characters were all there and were portrayed with a modicum of accuracy.
For what it's worth, after a more thorough investigation, the findings in the "Law And Order" case were changed from suicide to murder.
More soon.
